Las palabras some y any se utilizan para hablar de una cantidad indefinida de algo. Pueden usarse con sustantivos contables (en plural) e incontables.

Uso de "Some"

Oraciones Afirmativas

Generalmente usamos some en oraciones afirmativas para indicar una cantidad no específica, pero mayor que cero.

• There are some apples on the table. (Hay algunas manzanas en la mesa.) (Sustantivo contable plural)
• I have some water in my bottle. (Tengo algo de agua en mi botella.) (Sustantivo incontable)
• She bought some new clothes. (Ella compró algo de ropa nueva.) (Sustantivo incontable)
• He met some interesting people at the party. (Él conoció a algunas personas interesantes en la fiesta.) (Sustantivo contable plural)

Preguntas (Ofrecimientos y Peticiones)

También usamos some en preguntas cuando estamos ofreciendo algo o pidiendo algo, y esperamos una respuesta afirmativa.

• Would you like some coffee? (¿Te gustaría un poco de café?) (Ofrecimiento)
• Can I have some sugar, please? (¿Puedo tener algo de azúcar, por favor?) (Petición)
• Are there some chairs in the room? (¿Hay algunas sillas en la habitación?) (Se espera una respuesta afirmativa, por ejemplo, mostrando una habitación con sillas)

Uso de "Any"

Oraciones Negativas

Generalmente usamos any en oraciones negativas para indicar la ausencia de algo.

• There aren't any apples on the table. (No hay ninguna manzana en la mesa.) (Sustantivo contable plural)
• I don't have any water in my bottle. (No tengo nada de agua en mi botella.) (Sustantivo incontable)
• She didn't buy any new clothes. (Ella no compró nada de ropa nueva.) (Sustantivo incontable)
• He didn't meet any interesting people at the party. (Él no conoció a ninguna persona interesante en la fiesta.) (Sustantivo contable plural)

Preguntas

Generalmente usamos any en preguntas para preguntar sobre la existencia de algo.

• Are there any questions? (¿Hay alguna pregunta?)
• Do you have any brothers or sisters? (¿Tienes algún hermano o hermana?)
• Is there any milk in the fridge? (¿Hay algo de leche en la nevera?)
• Did you see any good movies recently? (¿Viste alguna buena película recientemente?)

• Affirmative: I saw some birds in the park.

Sustantivos Incontables

• Affirmative: I need some help with this.
• Negative: I don't need any help with this.
• Question: Do you need any help with this?
• Question (Offer/Request): Can I get you some water?
